Short DescriptionJohn Trippelowe rises up against the Prior of Barnwell and coerces the mayor of Cambridge
DetailsChesterton. It was presented that John Trippelowe, cutler, with many other wrongdoers, rose up against his allegiance and the king's peace in the town of Cambridge on Sunday 16th June 1381, and that he was one of the leaders in the attack on the Prior of Barnwell and his close, and in coercing the mayor of Cambridge, Edmund Redmedwe, to make proclamations against the law and customs of the realm, and supporting everything done against the said Prior and his home. And that the same John on the preceding Saturday and on the following Monday and Tuesday was an aider and abettor in the insurrection, and in this way inciting the people in prejudice of the king. He appears on 23rd July, pleads not guilty, and is acquitted. Pledges come for good behaviour: John Org[...], Ronald Vygar, William de Burton and John Wenderet.
