Short DescriptionThomas Fletcher threatens William ate Hethe and burns documents of the manor of Bergholt
Details[The jurors] also say that Thomas Fletcher of Bergholt (beheaded), chief congregator and supporter at the time of the rising feloniously came in a warlike manner to the village of Bergholt, namely on Monday 17th June 1381, to the manor of Bergholt with many others unknown and threatened the life and limb William ate Hethe, bailiff of the said manor, unless he gave up to him all court rolls, rentals and extents and certain other muniments touching the said manor. And the same aforesaid William in fear of his life gave them up, and immediately afterwards the aforesaid Thomas Fletcher with many others unknown feloniously and falsely tore up and burnt them next to the church of Bergholt, to the disinheritance of £10 of Lady Margaret de Sutton and John de Sutton, knight.
