Item dicunt quod Thomas Fletcher, decollatus, de Berholte capitalis congregator et sustentor tempore levacionis modo guerrino felonice venit in villa de Bergholte videlicet die lune proxima post festum corporis Christi anno quarto supradicto ad ballivum manerii de Bergholt cum multiis aliis ignotis et ibidem minavit Willelmus ate Hethe ballivum dicti manerii de vita et membris nisi ei liberare voluisset omnia rotuli curiae reddentale exiscent' et omnia alia munimenta predicti manerii tangentibus. Et ibidem predictus Willelmus pro timore mortis sibi liberavit et statim postea predictus Thomas Fletcher cum multis aliis ignotis iuxta ecclesiam de Bergholte felonice et false defractiam et incendiam fecit ad exheredacionem dominae Margerie de Sutton et Iohannis de Sutton chivaler x li. Item dicunt quod idem Thomas Fletcher, decollatus , die dominica proxima post festum corporis Christi anno quarto supradicto felonice et contra dignitatem corone domini Regis intravit rectoriam de Stratfed et ibidem minavit Rogerum personam ecclesiae de Stratfed de vita et membris nisi ei et sociis suis dare voluisset aurum et argentum pro costagiis suis et ibidem Iohannes atte Broke capellanus dicti persone ibidem sibi liberavit xxvi s. viii d. pro timore mortis et pro deliberacione sua habenda. Text (English translation)Samford The jurors present that Roger Dene of Ashbocking on Monday 17th June 1381 feloniously killed William Fraunceys of Melton at Ipswich. Also they say that John de Batisford, parson of the church of Bucklesham, and John Martyn, chaplain, chief supporters and congregators at the time of the rising came to the villages of Stutton and Woolverstone in a warlike manner and against the dignity of the crown, namely, on Sunday 16th June 1381, and there they feloniously and fraudulently entered the close and houses of Roger Wolferston' with many others unknown, and there feloniously plundered and carried away grain, malt, sheep, cows, horses and other goods and chattels of the said Roger, worth £40, at Stutton and Woolverstone. Also they say that Thomas Fletcher of Bergholt (beheaded), chief congregator and supporter at the time of the rising feloniously came in a warlike manner to the village of Bergholt, namely on Monday 17th June 1381, to the manor of Bergholt with many others unknown and threatened the life and limb William ate Hethe, bailiff of the said manor, unless he gave up to him all court rolls, rentals and extents and certain other muniments touching the said manor. And the same aforesaid William in fear of his life gave them up, and immediately afterwards the aforesaid Thomas Fletcher with many others unknown feloniously and falsely tore up and burnt them next to the church of Bergholt, to the disinheritance of £10 of Lady Margaret de Sutton and John de Sutton, knight. Also they say that the same Thomas Fletcher (beheaded), on Sunday 16th June 1381 feloniously and against the dignity of the crown entered the rectory of Stratford and threatened the life and limb of Roger, parson of the church of Stratford, unless he and his associates gave him gold and silver for his expenses, and John atte Broke, chaplain of the said parson, in fear of his life and to be released gave him 26 s. 8 d. And the same Thomas Fletcher was a chief congregator and supporter from village to village in the hundred of Sampford at the time of the rising.
