Text (English translation)Richard, by the grace of God king of England and France and lord of Ireland, to the beloved to him Thomas More of Balsham, his escheator in the county of Huntingdonshire, greetings. Wishing for certain causes to be made more certain about the true yearly value of all the lands and tenements, which were of Robert Fippe, with appurtenances in the aforesaid county. Which same lands and tenements, on account that the aforesaid Robert was condemned to death for a certain treason, which he perpetrated against us and our crown amongst other communities of our realm, who lately rose up wickedly against our peace, are forfeited into our hands, as it is said. We order you that you render us more certain thereof in our Chancery under your seal clearly and openly without delay, sending back this writ to us. Witnessed by me, myself, at Westminster on the 12th day of April in the seventh year of our reign. Frauncys. Inquisition, taken at Offord Darcy in the county of Huntingdonshire on Saturday next after the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross in the seventh year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, before Thomas More of Balsham, escheator of the lord king in the aforesaid county, by virtue of a certain writ of the aforesaid lord king, directed to the same escheator and attached to this inquisition, by the oath of Henry Charwelton, Robert Tredelef, William London, William ..., Robert Wendh..., Henry Martyn, Thomas Bryth, John Bryth, John Smyth, John Bryth the younger, Richard Bolle and John Kenneman, sworn. Who say upon their oath that all the lands and tenements, which were of Robert Fyppe, named in the writ, with all appurtenances in the aforesaid county are worth per annum according to the true value of the same 13s 4d and not more beyond reprise. In testimony of which matter, the aforesaid jurors have affixed their seals to these presents. Dated the day, place and year, abovesaid.
