Text (English translation)First court after the rumour at the time of lady Matilda de Cornerth prioress at that time, held on Monday the day after St Michael 5 Ric II (30 September 1381) - William Langham, steward ... Order to seize into the hands of the lady all lands and tenements which are held by bondage-tenure (in villeinage). And to report about the profits. Because the tenents of the aforesaid lands and tenements came with force and arms inside the priory at a certain day and year and assaulted the ministers and servants of the lady prioress and threatened them by life and limb, and by force they took and carried away sealed muniments, (land) terriers, rentals, court rolls and other (written) evidence of the said prioress and the convent they found there and burnt them to the dispossession (of inheritance) of the same prioress and convent. And to the damage of the said inhabited(?) church of £100. It was ordered to seize [Robert Holwell; superscripted] into the hands of the lady a messuage and 5 acres of bond land which John Granger held of the lady, for the trespasses committed (against) the lady for the above stated reasons. And to this court comes the aforesaid John Granger and puts himself on the mercy of the lady for the aforementioned trespasses. And he requests to be readmitted to the aforesaid lands out of her grace. And upon this the lady granted the same tenement to him and his heirs (to hold) by the rod at the will of the lady for services etc. Saving the right etc. And he gives the lady the fine as above. And he does fealty. [in left margin: 6s 8d] It was ordered to seize [Thomas atte Ford; superscripted] into the hands of the lady a messuage and one garden which John Ford held of the lady, for the above reasons, who comes and puts himself on the mercy of the lady for the aforesaid trespasses. And he gives the lady the fine to regain the aforesaid lands to hold as before as it is stated on top. [in left margin: 6s 8d] Thomas Wheteby, 2 messuages, 10 acres of bond land; entry fine; 40d Thomas [Ralph; crossed out] Cook, 1 messuage, 10 acres of bond land; entry fine 6s 8d Ralph Sextayn, 1 messuage, 10 acres of bond land; entry fine 6s 8d John Leche, 1 cottage, 5 acres of bond land; entry fine 2s John Caselond, 1 messuage, 20 acres of bond land; entry fine 2s Oliver Bakere comes to the court and puts himself in the mercy of the lady for the trespasses he committed, entering the priory and, with force and arms, carrying away the muniments pertaining to the aforesaid church, together with others in prejudice etc. Fine as it is stated on top [in left margin 40d] Richard Crul, 1 messuage, 20 acres of land; entry fine 2s verso [first two entries faded; illegible] It was ordered to seize [Walter Turnour; superscripted] into the hands of the lady a messuage and 7 acres of bond land which Gilbert Boar held jointly with his wife Agnes for their lives. And after their deaths John Stonhach would have descend which he bought from the same Gilbert and Agnes as it is stated in a previous court (now) burnt at the time of the rumour. And because the aforesaid John Stonhach came into the priory with force and arms in the company of others and committed trespasses as stated above it is decided by the steward that the reversion of the the aforesaid lands shall all be forfeited and the right the same John had in the aforesaid lands is completely annulled. And because the aforesaid Gilbert is an old man, poor and infirm the lady grants out special grace to the same and his wife Agnes the aforesaid tenement to hold for their life without doing waste. And they gave the fine to have entry [in left margin xx d] John Hekeford, 1 messuage, 40 acres of bond land; entry fine 13s 4d William atte Hole, 1 messuage, 40 acres of bond land; entry fine 13s 4d Wife (not named) of Thomas Ilsent, 1 messuage, 40 acres of bond land; entry fine 40d William Ropere, 1 messuage, 6 acres of bond land; entry fine 6s 8d It is ordered to seize into the hands of the lady all lands and bond tenements which Thomas Lynered, Johanna who was the wife of Robert Welibetyn, Johanna who was the wife of Roger Alfred, John Alayn, John Clerk, William Roger, John Bakere, John Maunser, John Adam, Thomas Heyward [Silvester Pauly and Robert Grene; crossed out] held, because they came with force and arms inside the priory and burnt the muniments of the said priory.
