Text (English translation)Patent Roll, 7 Ric. II, Part 2, m. 6 30 May 1384 Salisbury Pardon, at the supplication of the earl of Stafford and notwithstanding that he was excepted in the late Parliament, to Thomas atte Raven of Rouchestre [Rochester], of divers treasons, felonies and misprisions. On Wednesday in Whit week 4 Ric. II, at Dertford [Dartford], he and others made divers risings and assemblings against the king and his people, and on the following Friday at Maydeston [Maidstone] slew John Southalle of Maydeston [Maidstone] and broke and burned the house of William Topclyve and carried away his goods and chattels, and on the following day razed the manor of Nicholas Heryng of Northcrey [North Cray], carrying away his goods and chattels, and continued to perpetrate other treasons until Monday after the feast of SS. Peter and Paul 5 Ric. II, coercing Thomas Tryvet, knight, Thomas de Cobeham, knight, John de Frenyngham, James de Pecham and others of the county of Kent, and imprisoning them until they took oath to be of their assemblies, broke all the king's gaols in Kent, released the felons therein, and burned all the evidences of the Crown and of the king's escheatry in the house of Thomas de Shardelowe of Dertford [Dartford], chief coroner, and of Elias Reyner of Strode [Strood], in the open spaces (placeis) of those towns. Moreover, the said Thomas by the name of Thomas Raven of Suthwerk [Southwark], on Friday after Corpus Christi 4 Ric. II, was one of the insurgents in the city of London, who came to the house of Reginald Aleyn at Walbrook and took from him a statute merchant, in which he the said Thomas was bound in a large sum to the said Reginald, compelling him under threat of death to make a fine of 10 marks with him; furthermore, he was a principal and captain of evildoers and maintainers and in their company broke the houses and dwellings (mansiones) of Richard Imworth and other the king's lieges, plundering them of their goods and chattels in Suthwerk [Southwark] and elsewhere; and lastly with others, on Wednesday after Corpus Christi 4 Ric. II, he rode to Suthwerk [Southwark] to raze the houses and tenements of the said Richard Imworth there and the prisons of the King's Bench and the Marshalsea, and released the prisoners. By p.s.
