Text (English translation)John Seymper, being in the said gaol, on account that he is indicted before William la Zouche of Harringworth and his fellow justices of the peace of the lord king, assigned in the county of Northamptonshire, on account that he, on Friday next after the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary in the third year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, feloniously broke the prison of the castle of lord king of Northampton and the aforesaid castle of the lord king. And on account that he is indicted before the aforesaid William la Zouche of Harringworth and his fellow justices of the peace of the lord king, assigned in the county of Northamptonshire, on account that he, before the feast of Holy Trinity in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, came at Brampton by Harlestone in the aforesaid county and elsewhere within the said county, saying and affirming that he is a merchant of wools by the name of John Phelipot of London, knight, by colour of the purchase of the aforesaid wools, he incited and procured diverse men of the aforesaid county to surge and rise up against the lord king and his peace and allegiance. [Written at top]: He says that he is a clerk, afterwards the jurors were sworn, and he reads as a clerk. The jurors say that he is guilty both of the said breaking of the prison and also of the levying and procurement of men to rise up against the king and his allegiance.
