Postea ad deliberacionem gaole de Neugate factam ibidem coram Willelmo Walleworth maiore civitatis London' Roberto Knolles et aliis sociis suis iusticiariis domini regis ad eandem prisonam de quibuscumque prisonis in eadem existentis deliberandum assignatis videlicet die mercurii in vigilia sancti Iacobi Apostoli anno regni regis Ricardi secundi quinto compertus fuit per inquisitionem in quam idem Iohannes Kirketon coram prefatis iusticiariis se inde legitime posuit et co. quod predictus Iohannes Kirkton non fuit in aliquo culpabile de feloniis seu prodicionibus supradictis nec se retraxit etc. [Kirketon is acquitted on this charge, but stays in prison because of other indictments against him].
Text (English translation)Indictments taken in the presence of William Walworth mayor of the city of London and his fellows justices of the Lord King to ... rebels arising against the Lord King by virtue of letters patent of the said Lord King to the said justices in the parish of St Sepulchre without Newgate in the suburbs of London on 20 July 1381. Jurors of the view of the parish of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate in the suburbs of London viz. Stephen Maynard Henry Godchep Roger Burre John Sextry John atte Felde Richard Bernys John Haryngeye John Walssh John Naylere Thomas Kene William Godhewe Henry Cok Henry Bosele and Thomas Brompton present that John Kirkton on 15 June 1381 together with many other malefactors arising against the Lord King went to the house of Henery Boseleye courser at Smithfield and there feloniously and treasonably took and stole five horses of various colours which lately belonged to Brother Robert Hales Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England, price ten pounds, and they say that John Kirketon was a common and principal malefactor there etc. Afterwards at the delivery of Newgate gaol made there on in the presence of William Walworth mayor of the city of London, Robert Knolles and their fellow justices of the Lord King assigned to deliver from that prison any prisoners there on 24 July 1381 it was reported by the jury on which John Kirketon placed himself in the presence of the said justices that John Kirketon was not in any way guilty of the said felonies or treasons neither did he withdraw himself. [Kirketon is acquitted on this charge, but stays in prison because of other indictments against him].
