And concerning this the same Elizabeth appeals the aforesaid Theobald urgently, in person, that whereas she was in the peace of God and of the present lord king in London, in the parish of St Olave in Aldgate ward, on the Friday following the feast of Corpus Christi, in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard the second, at [...] hour, the aforesaid Theobald came there, together with other malefactors, in the parish of St Olave in Aldgate ward, and, lying in wait and with a premeditated attack, against the lord king's peace, his crown and his dignity, broke into the same Elizabeth's close and houses, and seized and carried off her goods and chattels, namely linen and woollen cloth, gold and silver rings, and other goods and chattels found there to the value of a hundred pounds. And as soon as the same Theobald had committed the aforesaid felony of robbery he fled, and the aforesaid Elizabeth at once pursued him from ward to ward, as far as the four nearest wards and further, until etc. And if the aforesaid Theobald wishes to deny the aforesaid felony of robbery, the aforesaid Elizabeth is prepared to prove this against him as the court etc. And the aforesaid Theobald appears in person and defends every felony and whatever etc. And he says that he is in no way guilty of this. And on this he puts himself on the country. And the aforesaid Elizabeth likewise. Therefore a jury is to appear on this before the lord king fifteen days after Easter day wherever etc. And who do not etc., to investigate etc. because as much etc. The same day is given to the aforesaid parties etc. And the aforesaid Theobald is handed over to the marshal in the custody of Robert Bracy etc. And afterwards Laurence Trussell, John Brounesbury, Henry Malmayn and William Hoton appear, and stand bail to have the body of the aforesaid Theobald before the lord king at the aforesaid term., and so from day to day until etc., and for his good conduct towards the said Elizabeth that he will do no evil or harm to the same Elizabeth, personally or through another, nor will he arrange for it to be done - each of the aforesaid mainpernors under the penalty of twenty pounds and the aforesaid Theobald under the penalty of a hundred pounds, which each of them acknowledges that he owes to the lord king if the same Theobald should happen to do wrong in any of the aforesaid and this should be legitimately proved etc. On which day the aforesaid parties appeared in person before the lord king; and the sheriffs did not send a writ. Therefore as before a jury is to appear on this before the lord king fifteen days after the day of Holy Trinity, wherever etc., and who do not etc., to investigate etc., because as much etc. The same day is given to the aforesaid parties etc., namely to the aforesaid Theobald by the aforesaid mainprise etc. At which quinzaine of Holy Trinity the aforesaid Theobald Elys appeared before the lord king at Westminster, by the aforesaid mainprise; and the aforesaid Elizabeth, although she was solemnly summoned on the fourth day of the plea, did not appear. Therefore she is to be seized, and her aforesaid pledges to prosecute in mercy. And the aforesaid Theobald, with regard to the same Elizabeth's suit, is to go from here without day. But with regard to the lord king's suit he is asked urgently how he wishes to acquit himself of the aforesaid felony. He says that he is in no way guilty of it, and on this he puts himself on the country. Therefore a jury is to appear on this before the lord king.
