Text (English translation)King to Walleworth - certiorari, requesting for various reasons that indictments made in the court of Walleworth and his fellows, lately justices assigned to chastise and punish certain rebels, who arose against the peace and their allegiance in the city of London and counties of Middlesex and Surrey of Thomas Shouteman del Brighouse, to be returned into Chancery - 24 Apr 6 Ric. II. Inquisition of the view of Bermondsey, taken before William Walleworth, mayor of the city of London, and his fellow justices of the lord king at the Guildhall of London on Monday next after the feast of St Swithin in the fifth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, to inquire into wrongdoers rising up against the lord king and about the wrongdoings of the same men by virtue of letters patent of the lord king, directed to the same justices, etc. The jurors of the aforesaid view, viz John White, Richard Swagham, Richard Brikeman, John Godalmyng, Thomas Sandwych, William Walssh, Thomas Ode, Lawrence Mordon, John atte Welle, John Wantebrigg, John Purle and Richard Smyth, present that Thomas Shouteman of London, on Friday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, at Southwark, traitorously and feloniously killed a certain John Bochier with a certain sword, and that he was one of those rising up against the lord king, and that after the felony had been so made, he made a flight, etc. Inquisition of the vill of Southwark in the county of Surrey, taken there before William Walleworth, mayor of the city of London, and his fellow justices of the lord king to inquire into wrongdoers, rising up against the lord king, and about the wrongdoings of the same men, by virtue of letters patent of the lord king, thereupon directed to the same justices, etc, viz on Monday next before the feast of St ?Margaret the virgin in the fifth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest. The jurors of the aforesaid vill, viz Adam Kentissh, Walter Pulter, William Reson, Walter Walpol, Richard Courtnour, William atte Style, Thomas Cobbyng, John Sparwe, Richard Bakere, William Derby, William atte Glene and William Hosiere, present that Thomas Shouteman, in the company of other wrongdoers, traitorously and feloniously rising up, on Friday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II, upon London Bridge within 'les Stulpes' by Southwark, in the ward of the said Bridge, feloniously killed John Bochier, millward, and cut off the head of the same John with a certain sword for 3½d, which the same John owed to the aforesaid Thomas, and not for another cause, and he was a common wrongdoer and did several bad things to many men then at the time of the insurrection, etc. Item, the aforesaid jurors say that the aforesaid Thomas Shouteman, together with very many other wrongdoers from the aforesaid insurrection, on Friday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II, abovesaid, at Greenwich in the county of Kent, feloniously and traitorously broke and knocked down to the ground all the houses and tenements of Reginald Neuport otherwise called Reginald atte Chaumbre, and feloniously took and carried away diverse goods and chattels of the same Reginald, viz linen and woollen cloths and other jewels, to the value of £40, and that he was a common wrongdoer in doing these bad things in the counties of Surrey and Middlesex, etc. Inquisition, taken before William Walleworth, mayor of the city of London, and his fellow justices of the lord king, at Southwark on Wednesday next after the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in the fifth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, to inquire into wrongdoers, rising up against the lord king, and into their wrongdoings, by virtue of letters patent of the lord king, thereupon directed to the same justices, etc. The jurors of the view of Southwark, aforesaid, viz William Hosiere, John Cheryton, John ?Trentden, John atte ..., Richard Nevyll, Walter Segrave, John Botiller, Thomas Cobhambury, John Cauntbrigg, William ... ... ..., Geoffrey Hostiller and John Marchal, present that Thomas Shouteman of Brighouse in the company of the said wrongdoers, on Friday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II, within 'le Stulpes' ... London Bridge in the ward of Bridge, feloniously beheaded a certain John Bochier, millward, ... ... sword, and killed him there. And immediately after the aforesaid beheading had been made ... ... the same Thomas ?dragged ... the body of the same John Bochier outside the liberty of the city of London as far as the vill of Southwark in the county of Surrey, etc.
