Text (English translation)Writ of terminari to Hugh de Hastynges for indictments made in the court of Le and his fellows, assigned to chastise and punish certain rebels who lately against the king's peace and in disturbance of the people arose in conventicles and congregations in Norfolk of Adam Soutere, wright, and William Unkele of Herdham. Norfolk: Inquisition taken at Litcham in the hundred of Launditch on Tuesday next after the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the fifth year of the reign of King Richard II before Hugh de Hastynges and his fellow justices, assigned to chastise and punish certain rebels, who made an insurrection against the peace of the lord king and to the disturbance of the people in conventicles and assemblies, etc, by the oath of Thomas Deye, Roger Spryngald, Adam Dyllyngford, John Cole, Edmund Clerk, Ralph Bakere, Robert Kette, Stephen Hepten, Robert Michel, Nicholas, Edmund Bulwere of Heigham and Thomas Sonsyng, sworn to this. Who say upon their oath that Adam Soutere, wright, on Sunday in the feast of Pentecost in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II, rose up against the crown of the lord king and feloniously broke into the houses of John de Bokyngham at Downham Hythe, and feloniously raped/abducted Sarah, wife of the said John de Bokyngham, and took and carried away goods and chattels of the same John to the value of 100s, found there. Item that William Uncle of Hardingham was one of the chief uprisers in the week next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II, and feloniously broke into the said houses of the said John de Bockyngham with the aforesaid Adam, and took and carried away goods and chattels found there from the aforesaid John to the value of nine shillings. And in the meantime I make known to you that by the mandate of me, the aforesaid Hugh, by virtue of the aforesaid indictment, the aforesaid Adam Soutere, wright, was taken and handed over to the gaol of the bishop of Norwich in the town of King's Lynn, to stay there in the prison of the lord king until the lord king ordered anything about him, just as would be pleasing to him, and by my mandate, directed to the keeper of the gaol there, he firmly enjoined that he should not be delivered by mainprise or by any other way on account of a heavy pain, etc.
