Text (English translation)King to Tresilian - transmitting to you from Chancery indictments in the court of William Walleworth and fellows, justices appointed to chastise and punish certain rebels, who rose against the peace in Surrey, concerning certain felonies and treasons, of which Simon Gerard is indicted, and also a certificate of the reasons for the arrest, and detention of said Simon in Newgate goal. You are to proceed in accordance with the law, etc. Dated 15 Jun 5 Ric. II. King to sheriff of London. Certify cause of arrest, and detention in Newgate goal of Simon Gerard of South Lambeth, 8 Jun 5 Ric. II. [Dorse - indicted in court of W. W. with whom indictments remain]. King to William Walleworth. Certify cause of all indictments of treason and felonies and other misdemeanors of said Simon in court, as above. Return to Chancery. Dated 13 Jun 5 Ric. II. [Dorse - indictments attached]. Inquisition of the view of Kennington in the county of Surrey, taken there before William Walleworth, mayor of the city of London, and his fellow justices of the lord king, assigned by letters patent of the lord king to inquire, hear and determine into any wrongdoers now newly rising up against the lord king, etc. The jurors, viz William Pelham, Thomas Taillor, Robert atte Welde, Stephen atte Gate, Thomas Charietour, Richard Bambourne, Stephen Poynt, William Kyng, William Tabeler, Elias de Bruges, Nicholas Brode and Bartholomew Carpenter come and say upon their oath that Ralph atte Crofte, on Friday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, was the first abettor against the peace of the lord king at North Lambeth in the county of Surrey, and at the same time with the other wrongdoers, below written, viz with Thomas Taillor, Simon Gerard, John Haukes, Robert Seman, William Brangwayn, Roger Norman, Thomas Rolf, Walter Lorchon, Walter Percok called Stevene, and Richard Lorthoun, made an insurrection and came to the vill of Kennington in the said county of Surrey, together with other unknown wrongdoers. The aforesaid jurors also say that Richard Lorchoun of Lambeth, William Senare, William Pontere of Battersea feloniously and traitorously took and burnt custumals and other muniments of the lord king, found in the custody of the bailiff of Kennington, together with the force of the aforesaid Ralph atte Crofte, Thomas Tailler and Simon Gerard, John Haukes, William Brangwayn, Roger Norman, Thomas Rolf, William Lorchoun, William Percok called Stevene, Bartholomew Carpenter and John Waryn, being then and there. Item, the aforesaid jurors say that the aforesaid Simon Gerard and John Haukes, on Thursday on the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year, abovesaid, came at Clapham in the county of Surrey and there feloniously and traitorously took and robbed from Peter Bronde against his will two shillings and from Robert, parson of the church of Clapham, twelve pence, etc.
