We order you that you cause to come John Bonefaunt, taken and detained in our goal of Newgate under your custody, as it is said, with the cause of his taking, before us on this instant Monday next to come, wheresoever we will then be in England, to answer there upon certain things, which are to be explained then to him on our part, and to do further and receive what will then happen to be ordered about him there. And you are to have there this writ. Witnessed by me, myself, at Westminster on the 17th day of November in the fifth year of our reign. The endorsement of the same writ is such: We, John Heude and John Rote, sheriffs of London, make known to you that before the arrival of this writ, viz on the eve of St Michael the archangel last past, John Bonefaunt, within written, was delivered to us by Walter Doget and William Knyghtcote, late sheriffs of the said city, our predecessors, to keep him safely in the prison of the lord king of Newgate for certain treasons and other felonies, whereof he is indicted before William Walleworth and his fellow justices of the lord king. Which same indictments remain in the hands of the aforesaid justices, but nevertheless, we have the body of the same John Bonefaunt before you promptly, just as is ordered within. Which same John Bonefaunt is committed to the marshal. And because the court wishes to be informed about the aforesaid indictments, etc, the same William Walleworth is commanded that he sends all the indictments touching the aforesaid John Bonefaunt and had before him with all things concerning them, under his seal clearly and openly, before the lord king without delay, so that further, etc. And upon this there came John Bakere of Hampton, John Parkere of the same, John Ingram of the same, and John Iwayn of the same, and they mainprised for the aforesaid John Hampton, to have his body before the lord king in the octave of St Hilary, wheresoever, etc. Afterwards in this same term the aforesaid William Walleworth sent before the lord king the aforesaid indictments in these words: Inquisition, taken at the house of Reginald Cobeham next to the church of St Mary Overy of Southwark in the county of Surrey on the 10th day of August in the fifth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest before William Walleworth, mayor of the city of London, and his fellow justices of the lord king, assigned to hear and determine any treasons and other felonies in the county of Surrey and elsewhere, by the oath of Robert Northrugge, Richard atte Ryvere, John Ferour, James Taillour, John Lonekyn, John Miggele, John Byghton, Robert Taverner, Richard Stakeford, William Ware, John Pope and John Symond, who say that John Bonefaunt, William Osebarn, Robert Sutton, John Surpyton, Walter Selcok, William Crispe, John Taillour of Kingston, John Coleman, Thomas Dyere of Kingston, Thomas Taillour of Kingston, and Peter Carpenter of Kingston were those, who made an insurrection at this first time of the disturbance, with diverse other wrongdoers, whose names they do not know, traitorously against the lord king and his people in the vill of Kingston upon Thames, aforesaid, and the adjacent places in the county of Surrey, aforesaid, and were the leaders of others, so insurging with them. They also say that the aforesaid John Bonefaunt, together with the other wrongdoers, came to the house of John Hunt in Kingston, aforesaid, viz on Saturday next after the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of the now king, and proposed to burn the aforesaid houses with fire, which he carried with him, and further threatened there to behead the said John Hunte, if he did not want to make a fine with him according to the will of the said John Bonefaunt. Which same John Hunte, on account of fear of death, made a fine with him for 8s 4d, which the same John Bonefaunt received from the same John Hunte in the aforesaid form.
