Text (English translation)Cambridgeshire The prior of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England appeared on the fourth day through John Bretton, his attorney, against Robert Flatbury, Richard Plesele of Whaddon, junior, John Moigne of Whaddon, John Buskere of Wimpole, Nicholas Deye of Wimpole, Philip Blake of Meldreth and William Catour of Wimpole, in a plea of why with force and arms they broke into the close and houses of the same Prior at Shingay, and took and carried off his goods and chattels found there to the value of forty pounds, and other outrages etc. and against the peace etc. And they did not appear. And the sheriff was ordered to attach them etc. And the sheriff now sends word that the aforesaid Robert is attached by William Halk and John Crisp. Therefore they are in mercy. And the sheriff is ordered to distrain them by all their lands etc. And that about the issue etc. And he is to have his body here three weeks after Easter through justice. And concerning the aforesaid Richard, John, John, Nicholas and Philip, the sheriff sends word that they have nothing etc. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to seize them if etc. So that he has their bodies here at the aforesaid term etc. Cambridgeshire Thomas Swafham appeared on the fourth day through John Stap', his attorney, against John Nase, Simon the servant of Gilbert Cristemesse, John Talworth, junior, John Smyth of Preacher Street in Cambridge, John Smyth of Haddenham and John Hobergent, in a plea of why with force and arms they broke into the closes of the same Thomas at Reach and Burwell, and took and carried off his goods and chattels found there, to a value of forty pounds, and other outrages etc. and against the peace etc. And they did not appear. And the sheriff was ordered to distrain the aforesaid John Nase and also to seize the aforesaid Simon and all the others etc. And the sheriff now sends word that the aforesaid John Nase is distrained by his chattels to a value of eight pence. And mainprise by William Nase, John Brode, Simon Gilbert and William Nat. Therefore they are in mercy. And the sheriff is ordered as before to distrain him by all his lands etc. And that about the issue etc. And that he is to have his body here three weeks after Easter day through justice. And concerning the aforesaid Simon and all the others, the sheriff sends word that they are not found etc. Therefore the sheriff is ordered as before to seize them if etc. So that he has their bodies here at the aforesaid term etc.
