Text (English translation)King's writ to the bailiffs of Reading abbey, Robert Ward and John Balet, to bring William draper of Cambridge, who is in the king's prison in Reading [to which prison he was sent by Robert Bracy keeper of the Marshalsea], in the quindene of Easter to the king's bench ... It is testified in court that the aforesaid William Draper was indicted for divers felonies and treasons before Hugh de la Zouche and his associated justices ... Inquisition at Cambridge before Hugh de la Zouche and his associated justices on Tuesday, before Margareta virginis 5 Richard II [16 July 1381] on the oaths of John Blancpayn, Richard Fouke, John Marchal, Nicholas Potere, John Norton, John Maskerell, John Berle, Simon Glovere, John Barkere, Thomas Lullewurth, William Burton and William Pamflon who say William Draper in 'Noteslane' on Sunday after Corpus Christi 4 Richard II [16 June 1381], in Cambridge was a common insurgent against the mayor of the town of Cambridge, namely Edmund Redmedwe, and against the peace. And that he was a feloniously plunderer at the said day and in the same place of the goods and chattels of John Blancpayn, William Bedelf, Roger Harleston and of Corpus Christi college, of which value they don't know. And also, that William, son of John Draper was indicted by another inquisition held before the aforesaid justices at Cambridge on Monday after the feast of translation of Thomas the Martyr 5 Richard II [8 July 1381], namely on oaths of John Giboun senior, John Marchal, John Smyth of Barnwell, John Norton, Simon Glovere, Henry atte Felde, Thomas Caldecote, Ralph Wotton, Roger Barbour, Bartholomew Chaundeler, Adam Lollewrth, John Hadle, Robert Stokesforde and John Berle, draper, that the same William together with others insurrgents at Cambridge on Sunday in the aforesaid year [16 June 1381] broke open the houses of St Benedict of Cambridge collerge; and that he was a common malefactor ... [he presents a pardon, dated 18 March 1382, and writ of non molestando, dated 28 April 1382] And it is tested in this court by Hugh Candesby of Cambridge and Robert Blundesham of Cambridge, formerly bailiffs of the aforesaid town, sworn in for this purpose, that the aforesaid William Draper of Cambridge, named in this charta (i.e., the pardon), is the same person who is named William Draper of Noteslane and William, son of John Draper; it is agreed that the aforesaid William Draper of Cambridge can go without a day, etc.
