Text (English translation)Beds. Robert Michel of Sutton in mercy for many defaults. The same Robert was attached to respond to Geoffrey Child on a plea that he, with John Webbe of Wrestlingworth, Robert Herry of Eyeworth, John Kernton of Dunton, Robert Phelipot of Chawston, Henry atte Strete of Kneesworth, William Denyll, maltmonger, John Robyn senior, Robert Dolte, John Felle, William Rede of Wrestlingworth, John Sandrych, maltmonger, John Michel, John Clerc of Everton and John Martyn, draper, with force and arms broke the close and houses of the same Geoffrey at Shortmead and took and carried away goods and chattels worth £40, along with grain and hay worth 100 s., and they consumed and trampled a certain pasture for cattle, and other injuries, to the damage of Geoffrey and against the king's peace. And the same Geoffrey by his attorney John More pleads that the said Robert on Sunday 16 June 1381 with force and arms, namely swords, staffs, bows and arrows, broke the close and houses of the same Geoffrey at Shortmead and took and carried away goods and chattels, namely pans, linen and woollen cloth, vessels of wood, brass and bronze, timber, gates, windows and others household utensils worth etc., and crushed and consumed crops, namely wheat, barley, beans, peas, oats and grass, along with grazing for horses, cattle and sheep, and other damages etc. against the king's peace etc. whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of £100. And thereof he produces suit. And the aforesaid Robert appears through Robert Felwell his attorney and says that he is not guilty of the aforesaid trespass and places himself on the country. And the aforesaid Robert [sic] likewise. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors for the quindene of Trinity 1382. At which day, the aforesaid parties appear with their attorney etc. And the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore, as previously the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors for the quindene of Michaelmas 1382.
