Text (English translation)Bedfordshire. Alexander Orable of Kneesworth, Henry atte Strate and Robert White of Melbourn were attached to answer Thomas Adyngrave, on a plea that they, together with Robert Soutere of Biggleswade, Henry Skynnere of Biggleswade, William Skynnere of Biggleswade, Adam Wryght of Biggleswade, John Spencer of Hatley, John Webbe of Biggleswade, John Bordel of Biggleswade, John Carter of Biggleswade, John Robertseruant, shoemaker of Biggleswade, Robert Broyn of Biggleswade, John Caterel of Biggleswade, Thomas Plomer of Biggleswade, John Webbe of Broom, William Thresshere of Broom, William Aylberne of Holme and John, his son, with force and arms, broke the close and houses of the said Thomas Adyngrave at Willington and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of £40, and inflicted other enormities on him, to the grave damage of the said Thomas Adyngrave, and against the King's peace. And whence the same Thomas Adyngrave complains through John Lord, his attorney, that the aforesaid Alexander, Henry atte Strate and Robert White, together with etc, on Saturday 15 June 1381, with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, broke the close and houses of the said Thomas Adyngrave at Willington, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there, namely wheat, malt, barley, beans, peas and oats, linen and woollen cloth, bronze and wooden vessels and other necessaries of the home, to the value etc, and against the peace etc whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of £40. And thereof he produces suit etc. And the aforesaid Alexander, Henry atte Strete and Robert White appear in person and say that they are not guilty of the aforesaid trespass and place themselves on the country. And the aforesaid Thomas Adyngrave likewise. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors for the octave of Martinmas 1383. At which day, the parties aforesaid appeared. And the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore, as before, let another writ thereof be made in form aforesaid, returnable here in the octave of Hilary 1384. The same Thomas Adyngrave appeared, through his attorney aforesaid, against the aforesaid Robert Soutre, Henry Skynnere, William Skynnere, John Bordel, John Carter, John Robertseruant, shoemaker, Robert Broyn, John Caterel, Thomas Plomer, John Webbe of Broom, William Thresshere and William Aylberne and John, his son, together with Alexander, Henry atte Strate, Robert White, Adam Wryght, John Spenser and John Webbe on the aforesaid plea. And they did not come. And the sheriff was ordered to distrain the aforesaid Robert Soutere, Henry Skynnere and William Skynnere, and also arrest all the others. And whence he does nothing nor does he send the writ etc. Therefore, as before, the sheriff is ordered to distrain the aforesaid Robert Soutere, Henry Skynnere and William Skynnere by all lands and revenues, and produce them here in the octave of Martinmas 1383. And just as before the sheriff is ordered to arrest the aforesaid John Bordel, John Carter and all the others, and produce them here at the aforesaid term etc. At which day, the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore, just as frequently, they should be distrained and arrested in the form aforesaid so that they be here in the octave of Hilary 1384.
