Text (English translation)Hertfordshire. Henry atte Wode, fuller, Thomas Swon, weaver, Hugh Toby, smith, John Stoke, porter, John Sandrigg, physician, Nicholas Stanntone, courier, were attached to answer John fitz Roberd on a plea that they, together with John Tylere of Saint Albans, Richard Wyntr, fuller, Peter Webbe, John le Kembiere and William atte Grene, John de Lyndene, John atte Ree, tiler, John Lodere, parter, and Richard Shepherd, with force and arms, broke the close of the said John fitz Roberd at the town of Saint Albans, and they took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of £40, and inflicted other enormities on him, to the grave damage of the said John fitz Roberd etc against the King's peace etc. And whence the same John fitz Roberd complains in person that the aforesaid Henry, Thomas, Hugh, John Stoke and Nicholas, together with etc., on Sunday 16 June 1381 with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, broke the close of the said John fitz Roberd at the town of Saint Albans, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there, namely linen and woollen cloth, bronze and wooden vessels, gold and silver brooches and other necessaries of the home, to the value etc, and other enormities etc to the grave damage etc and against the peace etc whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of 100m. And thereof he produces suit. And the aforesaid Henry, Thomas, Hugh, John Stoke and Nicholas appear through Richard Carlton, their attorney, and say that they are not guilty and place themselves on the country. And the aforesaid John fitz Roberd likewise. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors here at the quindene of Michaelmas 1382. The same John fitz Roberd appeared against the aforesaid John Tylere, William atte Grene, Peter, John le Keirbye, William, John de Lyndone, John atte Ree and John Loderpakone on the aforesaid plea and they did not come. And the sheriff was ordered to attach them. And the sheriff reports that they have nothing. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them and produce them here at the aforesaid term etc. Hertfordshire.
