Text (English translation)[Henhowe, Bury St Edmunds, 1386] ... Also that John Clerk, tiler, of Monks Eleigh was arrested on an indictment made before the justices of the peace in the aforesaid county [Suffolk], namely that on the Friday after Corpus Christi 4 Richard II [14 June 1381] he was a chief riser and leader of the enemies of the king and he feloniously stole two bullocks worth 40s from John Curteys in Aldham. ... [summary] He pleads not guilty and is acquitted by the jury.
General InformationClerk might not have been arrested until 1384 and the case came to trial in 1386.
