Text (English translation)For the men of the town of Bury [St Edmunds, Suff.] The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer, greetings. When the men of the town of Bury were deprived of all grace, pardon and forgiveness in our parliaments of 5 Rich. II and 6 Rich. II etc., they were admitted to our grace for a fine of 2000m etc. We have realised that 500m of the aforesaid sum still remains to be paid, for which it is said that you already disturb the steward of the liberty of Saint Edmund before yourselves, in many ways, about his account. For certain reasons we postponed delivery of said 500m until the quindene of Michaelmas next [13‒19 October 1386]. We command that, in the event that the aforesaid 500m is not paid, you do not molest the aforesaid steward any way, at present or until the quindene aforesaid, in order that the said 500m can be raised in the meantime; and may he then answer to us or to those whom we have appointed as is proper. Witnessed by myself at Westminster, 8 July 10 Rich. II [1386].
