William Bruyn was required to be here at the quindene of Easter this term [17‒23 April 1385], to deliver, together with the other justices aforesaid, all escheats of their sessions. At the aforesaid quindene the aforesaid William came through John de Castelton, his attorney, and he says that he himself ought not deliver any escheats under the premises, because, he says, that the aforesaid letters patent never arrived, nor did he himself undertake any sessions under the pretext of the letters aforesaid, nor did he himself have any knowledge of the aforesaid latter, nor did any escheats arrive in the hand of the aforesaid William Bruyn. And this is put forward etc. It is said for the King that the letters patent aforesaid arrived in the hand of the aforesaid William Bruyn, and he himself undertook diverse sessions under the pretext of letters aforesaid, and that he himself had knowledge of the aforesaid letters and that diverse escheats his sessions arrived in the hand of the aforesaid William Bruyn. It is asked for the lord King that this be examined by a jury. William Bruyn says that which he said before and begs similarly. Therefore, let inquiry be made, and it is ordered that the sheriff of Cornwall undertake this at the quindene of Trinity [12‒18 June 1385] etc., and the same day is given to the aforesaid William Bruyn etc. At which day the aforesaid William came through his attorney and the sheriff returned the writ, therefore it is ordered that the sheriff of Cornwall undertake the same etc, at the quindene of Michaelmas [13‒19 October 1385] etc.
