Text (English translation)Norfolk. Michael, prior of Long Bennington (Lincolnshire) by his attorney appears against Thomas Crathegate, Peter Pallemer, Thomas, his son, Robert 'Thomasservant Crathegate' and John Everard of Field Dalling (Norfolk) in a plea that with force and arrms they broke into the close and the houses of the same prior at Field Dalling and burnt his deeds and other muniments and also court rolls and notes found there and inflicted other enormities on him to the grave damage etc. and against the peace ... [paraphrase:] sheriff ordered to attach them and to have them before the king's bench in the octave of Hilary ...
General Informationcf. TNA, KB 27/488 m. 27d The Cistercian priory of Field Dalling was one of the alien houses in England. It is not clear whether Field Dalling was an independant priory or a parcel of Long Bennington priory in Lincolnshire. The fact that the prior of Long Bennington starts the trespass case and not someone from Field Dalling points to dependency of Long Bennington (cf. VCH Norfolk, vol. ii, pp. 462-3).
