Unde dicit quod deterioratus est et dampnum habet ad valenciam quadraginta librarum et unde producit sectam et co. Et predicti Clemens et Rogerus per Henry de Lesyngham attornatum suum veniunt et defendunt vim et iniuriam qu' et co. Et dicunt quod ipsi in nullo sunt culpabiles de transgress' predicta. Text (English translation)Clement and Roger Leche were attached to answer the Abbot of St Benedict of Hulme on a plea that together with Martin Rust and John Bettes with force and arms they broke the closes and houses of the same abbot in Horning, North Walsham and Antingham and burnt his court rolls and rentals found there, and other enormities etc. to the grave damage and against the peace of the lord king etc. And therefore the same abbot by his attorney William de Balsham impleaded that the aforesaid Clement and Roger on Thursday after St Botulph abbatis 4 Richard II (20 June 1381) together with etc. with force and arms broke the closes and houses of the same abbot in Horning, North Walsham and Antingham and burnt his court rolls and rentals found there, and other enormities etc. and against the peace etc. whereupon he says that he suffered damage worth £40. And therefore he brings suit etc. And the aforesaid Clement and Roger by Henry de Lesyngham, their attorney, come and defend the force and injury etc. And they say that they are not guilty of the aforesaid trespasses. And upon this they put themselves upon the country. And the aforesaid abbot similarly. A jury is to come before the king's bench at in the octave of Trinity ... a day is given to the aforesaid parties etc. The same abbot by his attorney appears against Martin and John on the aforesaid plea of trespass. And they do not come. And the sheriff had been ordered to arrest them. And the sheriff now returns that they can not be found. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered, as before, to arrest them ... So that he has their bodies before the king's bench at the aforesaid Term etc.
