Text (English translation)London. John de Kent and John Abbot were attached to respond to John Salesbury glasier in a plea that they together with John Auncell of Southwark, Ralph de Donne of Greenwich, John Marchall, Simon Coroner of Combe, Willelmo Beaugraunt of Milton, Robert Hosyere of Plumstead, William atte Totte, John Frene, William Chaloner, John Lodere of East Malling, Stephen Hostyler, William Hostyler of Dartford, John Rose of Charlton, tiler, John Wytteneye, Robert Rolf of Deptford, Thomas Ladde, Thomas Dycoun of Horton (Kirby), Robert Hendevale, John Amys, John Longyngge of Sutton (at Hone), John Hayton, John Bakere of Grenestrete and William Ballande of (North) Darenth with force and arms they broke into the same John Salesbury's house in London, and they inflicted other enormities upon him to the damage of the said John Salesbury of £40 and against the king's peace. And therefore the said John Salesbury by his attorney Edmund Heryng made a complaint [before the court] that the said John de Kent and John Abbot together etc. on Thursday on Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (13 June 1381) with force and arms, namely with swords, clubs, bows and arrows, broke into the house of the same John Salesbury at London, namely in the parish of St Brigid the Virgin in Farringdon ward Without, and they inflicted other enormities upon him at the damage of the same John Salesbury of £40 and against the peace, and thus he says he suffered damages of £100 and thereupon he brings suit etc. And the aforesaid John de Kent and John Abbot by their attorney Thomas Beeston come and defend the force and injury ... And they say that they are not guilty and place themselves upon the country and the said John Salesbury does the same; jurors to come before the king's bench in the octave of St John the Baptiste ... A day is given to John Salesbury and to John de Kent and John Abbot. [paraphrase:] Sheriff does not send writs on two different occasions and case is postponed. London. The same John Salesbury, glasier, by his attorney appears against John Auncell of Southwark, Ralph de Donne of Greenwich, John Marchall, Simon Coroner of Combe, Willelmo Beaugraunt of Milton, Robert Hosyere of Plumstead, William atte Totte, John Frene, William Chaloner, John Lodere of East Malling, Stephen Hostyler, William Hostyler of Dartford, John Rose of Charlton, tiler, John Wytteneye, Robert Rolf of Deptford, Thomas Ladde, Thomas Dycoun of Horton (Kirby), Robert Hendevale, John Amys, John Longyngge of Sutton (at Hone), John Hayton, John Bakere of Grenestrete and William Ballande of (North) Darenth on the above plea. And they do not come. And as before the sheriffs had been ordered to arrest them. And they sheriffs now return that the aforesaid John Auncell and the others cannot be found and that they do not have anything [by which they can be restrained]. Therefore the sheriffs are ordered to arrest them and to have their bodies before the king's bench on the aforesaid term... (Case is postponed twice).
