Text (English translation)Middlesex. John Martyn of Chiswick, Alan Pygot of Chiswick, John Watkyn of Chiswick, John Gybon of Chiswick and John Wille of Chiswick were attached to answer Geoffrey Prat together with Peter Coleman of Hammersmith and John Morys of Hammersmith in a plea that together with Peter Coleman of Hammersmith and John Morys of Hammersmith with force and arms they took and carried away goods and chattels found at Cheswick of the same Geoffrey, worth £20, and that they burnt charters, deeds, tallage rolls, notes and other muniments of his found there and other enormities etc. and at the grave damage etc. and against the king's peace. And therefore the same Geoffrey by his attorney Thomas Crowe complains that the said John Martyn, Alan, John Watkyn, John Gybon and John Wille together [with] etc. on Friday after Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (14 June 1381) with force and arms took and carried away goods and chattels of the said Geoffrey, namely, woollen and linen cloths, brazen vessels, lead and timber, worth etc., and burnt charters, deeds, tallage rolls, notes and other muniments, namely bonds and acquittances they found there and other enormities etc. and against the peace etc. and thus he says he suffered damages of £100 and thereupon he brings suit etc. And the aforesaid John Martyn, Alan, John Watkyn, John Gybon and John Wille by their attorney William Stethorn come and defend the force and injury and they say that they are not guilty and place themselves upon the country and the said Geoffrey does the same; jurors to come before the king's bench on the day of Michaelmas in the quindene ... A day is given etc.
