Text (English translation)Whereas at several previous courts it was ordered that there should be seized into the hands of the lord all and singular lands and tenements which are held of the lord by the rod at will according to the custom of the manor because by the rumour (i.e. the insurrection) which happened in 4 Richard II all the court rolls of the lord here were burnt and no evidence remained in the lord's hand, whereby all lands and tenements of this sort remain in the lord's hands until all those tenants shall have shown their enrolments thereof testifying to the form of their tenure and shall have had them newly enrolled. And now there came into this court John Robyn, John Herre, John Swotill senior, Christina Swotell, Thomas Redhegh and Matilda his wife, John Bray and Margeria his wife, John Coteler, John atte Wente, Lucia Molle, Alexander Webbe, William Castell and Alice his wife. Also the same William Castell, Richard Basyngg, William Knygh, John Colsyg, John of Assh, Edward de Northey, William Sanderman, John Strong, Walter son of William le Cook, John Dunmowe atte Bregge, Walter Wyseman, Thomas Diewgh and Iohannes Hurtlyng and showed their enrolments and asked that of grace they should be recorded anew in the in the new rolls of the lord. And it is granted them by the lord through his steward as appears below ... [each tenant pays a fine between 2d and 3d for ratification and new enrolment and does fealty; the enrolments only refer to rent and suit of court, not to customary works].
General InformationJohn Robyn and 26 others tenants readmitted after the court rolls have been burnt. It cannot be determined who participated in the burning.
