Text (English translation)Essex. John Ewell, plaintiff, by his attorney Thomas May appears against Jacob Packard, Robert Taillour, John Raysoun, John Tymmok, John Grove, John Bat, John Derlyngton, John Breton, John Tannere of Writtle, William Hethe, John Waltham of Writtle, John Popler, Henry Bechewall and John Coggeshall de Langford defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close of the said John Ewell at Feering and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there worth £20 and [they committed] other enormities etc. against the peace etc. The defendants do not come. As the sheriff has been often ordered that he should capture them etc. And the sheriff now reports that they cannot be found. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered as before to arrest them etc. ... And to have their bodies to be in court here in the quindene of St Michaelis ...
