Text (English translation)Essex. John Sewale of Coggeshall, plaintiff, by his attorney appears against John Dyere, John Wryght of [Great] Seabrights, William atte Hethe, Richard Milnere of Asheldham, John Wynde of Asheldham, Nicholas Wryghte, John Bakere of Maldon, fisher, John Laurence of North Weal Bassett, tanner, Thomas Jonesservant Lambe, tanner, Richard Chaundeler of Brentwood, Richard Gygyl, carter, and Roger Reve of Boreham, defendants, on a plea of trespass. And they [the defendants] do not come. And the sheriff had been ordered that he should capture them etc. And the sheriff reports that they cannot be found ... Therefore, the sheriff is ordered as before to arrest them etc. ... And to have their bodies before us [the justices] the day after St John the Baptist [i.e. 25th June] ...
General InformationAlthough the non details of the trespass accusations are given, the presence of attackers known from other sources (for example Richard Chaundeler of Brentwood or William atte Heth) make it highly likely that this case concerns the attack on Sewale's house in Coggeshall.
