And therefore the same Thomas in his own person impleaded that the said Jacob together etc. on Monday after the feast of Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (17 June 1381) with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, broke into the close and the houses of the said Thomas at Manningtree and took and carried away his goods and chattels, namely linen and woollen cloths, copper and wooden vessels and other domestic utensils found at Manningtree worth etc. and [committed] other enormities etc. and to the grave injury etc. And against the peace. Wherefore he said he suffered loss and had damage worth 100 marks. And therefore he brings this suit etc. And the said Jacob by John Sumpter his attorney came. And he defends the force and injury whenever [it behoves them] etc. And he says that he is not guilty [on the charge] of the aforesaid trespass of which he was indicted by the above-mentioned Thomas. And he put himself upon the country. And the said Henry does the same. Therefore, it is ordered that the sheriff may cause him to come here in the quindene of Trinity ... At which day the parties come etc. And the sheriff did not sent writs. Therefore, the sheriff may cause them to come in the octave of Michaelmas ... The same Thomas appears against the aforesaid Henry, John, John, John, John, Robert, Geoffrey, John, Walter, Robert and John in his aforesaid pleas etc. And they do not come. And, as before, the sheriff has been ordered to arrest them.
