Text (English translation)For John Somenour and others. The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer greetings. The tenor of a certain inquiry was held by our command before Robert de Goldyngton, lately our escheator in the county of Essex, and returned in our chancery to yourselves etc., to examine there. Thence, in the prosecution of John Somenior, Robert Piers, John Geroun, William Chamberleyn, John Dawe and Robert Vyne, may you have the power to do proportionately as regards right, and it be done and seen to be done according to the law and custom of our kingdom of England. Witnessed by myself at Westminster 13 October 9 Rich. II [1385]. Record that the tenor of the inquiry, mentioned in the writ above, is attached to the same writ and remains in the custody of the marshal.
