Joan, Countess of Hereford, plaintiff, by Thomas May her attorney, appears against William Cole of Ramsden Bellhouse, Nicholas Michel of Downham, John Steble of Rayleigh, William Rydelere of Ramsden Bellhouse, William Furlong of Runwell, John atte Strate of Ramsden Bellhouse, John Orpede of Ramsden Bellhouse, John Ingelond of Downham, Robert Stoleman of Downham, John Gyffayn of Ramsden Bellhouse, John Grene junior of Nevendon, John Pykerell senior of Nevendon, John Pykerell junior of Nevendon and Thomas Jote of Ramsden Bellhouse, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close of the said countess at Ramsden Bellhouse and took and carried away goods and chattels found there worth £40 and burnt charters, deeds and other muniments they found there. And other enormities etc. And against the peace etc. They [the defendants] do not come. The sheriff is ordered to attach them etc. And the sheriff now sends words that they have nothing [by which they can be distrained] etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them etc. ... So that he has their bodies here in the quindene of Hilary .... Essex. Henry de Grey of Wilton, knight, plaintiff, by John Corbrigg his attorney, appears against William Borell of Writtle, John atte Stone, William Hunte of Writtle, John de Mayesbery, Nicholas Bygge of Writtle, John Spicer of Chelmsford, William Berhann of Chelmsford, spicer, and John Totham, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close of the said Henry at Sandon and took and carried away goods and chattels found there worth £20, and assaulted his men and servants, beat, wounded and evilly handled them such that the same Henry lost the services of the aforesaid men and servants for a great period of time. And other enormities etc. And against the peace etc. And they do not come. And the sheriff had been ordered to attach them. And the sheriff now reports that they have nothing [by which they can be distrained] etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them etc. ... So that he has their bodies in court in the quindene of Hilary etc. Essex. John Ryder, chaplain, and John atte Seler, executors of the testament of Richard atte Seler of London, plaintiffs, by William Norwych their attorney, appear against Richard Dalowe, Walter Ferrour of Waltham Holy Cross, Simon atte March, Thomas Sheryng, Richard Bocher of Great Waltham, John Prentys junior Walter atte Cheker, ostler, Richard Ostiler 'that was Jonesservant' Badburgham, John Maltman, carrier [ 'lodere'] and Walter Hunte, cook, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close and house which belonged to the same Richard atte Seler at Temple Roydon during his life, and burnt charters, deeds and other muniments belonging to the same Richard atte Seler, and they took and carried away goods and chattels belonging to Richard atte Seler worth £20 and 4 marks in penny coins. And other enormities etc. And against the peace etc. And they do not come. And the sheriff had been ordered to attach them.
