Text (English translation)For John Kempe of Dullyngham [Dullingham, Cambs.]. The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer, greetings. Though, in our parliament at Westminster on Monday in the octave of Michaelmas 6 Rich. II [8 October 1382], we pardoned and remised all and every single one of our lieges and subjects, whatever status or rank they were, or condition, certain citizens of London and others were excepted etc. And yet later at the supplication of the same community of the kingdom, made in our last parliament [23 February‒10 March 1383], by assent of our prelates, nobles and magnates in the same parliament namely concerning the traitors and felons, perpetrators in said uprising, that the aforesaid is made for all our lieges and subjects etc., they were absolved etc. We, wishing John Kempe of Dullyngham [Dullingham, Cambs.] excepted from such grace in said our parliament 5 Rich. II [1381], he was not absolved, and, for those treasons and felonies it is said were perpetrated by him in the aforesaid uprising, he was indicted before Hugo la Zouche and his colleagues ‒ our justices appointed to castigate and to punish the rebels and insurgents in the county of Cambridgeshire ‒ and was placed under examination. From this it was apparent the outlaw was not as per the tenor of the indictment, etc. You we command that our hand be withdrawn from the lands and tenements of John without delay etc. Witnessed by myself at Westminster 14 July, 7 Rich. II [1383].
