Text (English translation)For John de Ravenser. The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer greetings. Though, on 22 May last [1382], through our letters patent of our special grace, and for the good service that our beloved servant William Wightman, sealer of writs of our chancery, had devoted, recently for us in the town of Huntingdon, to repel in the same place certain commons of our kingdom who rose up against our peace, we granted him 6d. per day for life, taken ‒ for the time being ‒ from the revenues of the hanaper of our chancery, we informed John de Ravenser, keeper of the aforesaid hanaper, that the same William was in arrears of the aforesaid 6d. per day from the aforesaid 22 May, and also ordered the same John pay diverse sums of monies to the same William by virtue of our aforesaid command. We command that you are assured that John himself reasonably paid the same William thus, in his account at our exchequer ‒ to have made due allowance ‒ receiving the letters of acquittance from the aforesaid John, and also our abovementioned order. Witnessed by myself at Westminster 18 October, 6 Rich. II [1382].
