Text (English translation)For John Ewelle. Richard, by the grace of God, king etc. to the treasurer and barons of our exchequer, greetings. As we ‒ in consideration of the fact that John Ewelle, of the county of Essex, late our escheator of Essex and Hertford[shire], was killed in our service on account of his office, as we have heard, by some of our rebel commons understood to have risen against our peace at that time ‒ give pardon to John, son of said John Ewelle, of 13l. 12d., currently demanded of John the father by our said exchequer in the term of St Hillary last [1382], and 6l. 17s. which, as the said John the son has attested to us, is currently demanded separately of the said John the father from the goods and chattels of diverse outlawed men in the aforesaid counties by a summons of our said exchequer; we command that, of the said sum of 13l. 12d., you discharge well the said John the father, also the said John the son, their heirs and executors, and they be immediately quit in relation to us at our said exchequer, according to effects of our aforesaid pardon, given under our privy seal at Westminster 9 May, 5 Rich. II [1382].
