Text (English translation)Essex. Dean and chapter of the church of St Paul's in London [John de Appleby] by John Herlyngton their attorney, plaintiff, appear against John Stevene, John Bakere senior, John Pecche, Adam Herle, John Bakere junior, Robert Crudde, John Trumpour, William Gardiner, Walter Date, Thomas Gamen, Robert Justice and Robertum Man on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close the said dean and chapter at Tillingham and burnt their court rolls, rentals and other muniments they found there and inflicted other enormities on them to the grave injury of the dean and the chapter and against the king's peace etc. And they [the defendants] do not come. Sheriff had been ordered to attach them. And sheriff returns that they have nothing [by which they can be distrained] etc. Sheriff ordered to arrest them to appear in the quindene of Michaelmas.
