Text (English translation)Essex. John Geddyng, plaintiff, by his attorney appears against Robert Bulyngton, John Goldham, John Lytherheld of Langeley, Richard Swafham, Richard Lamberd, John Gibson, John Heyward, John atte Thake and Thomas Machoun, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they burnt his charters, deeds, rentals, court rolls and other muniments and of the said John Geddyng at Clavering and [they committed] other enormities etc. against the peace etc. They do not come. And both of the before-named Robert and John Goldham have been distraint by chattel worth 12d. And they are mainprised by John Mot, Ralph Prat, Gilbert Trot and William West, who are in mercy etc. And as before the sheriff is ordered to distrain them by all their lands etc. And that writs of exigent be issued etc. And that he has their bodies to be in court here in the quindene of Michaelmas. And the sheriff reports of all the others that they cannot be found etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered as before to arrest them etc. So that he has their bodies here at the aforesaid term etc.
