William Hynde of Aythorpe Roding, John Mounteneye of Aythorpe Roding, John Phippe of Aythorpe Roding, John Child of Aythorpe Roding and John Orchard of Aythorpe Roding and John Haleman of Aythorpe Roding were attached to answer William Marach in his plea that they together with John Gardevylle of Great Easton, John Spety of High Roding, Robert Rakener of Lashley (in Lindsell), John Honchon, flexman, of High Roding and Thomas Aleyn of High Roding with force and arms broke the close and the houses of the said Marach at Aythorpe Roding and burnt his charters, deeds and other memoranda they found there and took and carried away goods and chattels found there worth £20 and they committed other enormities to the great damage of the said William Marach and against the peace of the king. And therefore the same William Marach by John Giffard, his attorney, impleaded that the said William Hynde, John and all the others together etc. on Saturday after the feast of Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (15 June 1381) with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, broke into the close and the houses of the said William Marach at Aythorpe Roding and burnt deeds namley six charters by which (title) he held his tenements in Aythorpe Roding by rights of his wife, and certain charters and deeds by which he bought certain lands and tenements from John Halkeman in the same village and his written notes, namely estreats (copies) of [documents] sealed with green wax of the money raised for the king which consisted of 13 books released to him at the time of Edward de Benstede lately sheriff of Essex and the estreats released to him at the time of of John Symond lately sheriff of Essex consisting of 15 books.
