Text (English translation)At the delivery held at Brentwood on Friday on the morrow of the feast of St Jacob the apostle in the fifth year of king Richard the Second [26th July 1381] before the same justices came a certain John Frost of Chipping Ongar who was indicted the same day before the same justices upon the oath of etc. as is shown in the indictment rolls and he was interrogated about all the indictment he had been indicted on the same day, and upon this the said John confessed in person before the same justices there that all the aforesaid felonies had been committed by him. Judgement is therefore given by the aforesaid justices that the same John is to be drawn and hanged. And there it was inquired on the same day by the inquisition by which he was indicted if he had any chattel, land, or tenement on the day he committed the aforesaid felonies, they say upon their oath that he held 6 acres of land in the village of Little Horkesley, but that he did not have any chattel on the day he committed the aforesaid felonies etc.
