Et quod die martis proxima post festum Sancti Botulphi anno quarto supradicto Galfridum Lestan venit apud Brakene vi et armis et contra pacem domini Regis cum magna congregacione populi iniuste levati et sibi associati et ibidem clausum et domos Iohannis de Brakene felonice intravit et novem vaccas ipsius Iohannis precii centum solidorum ibidem inventa felonice cepit et abduxit. Et est communis malefactor. Item dicunt quod predicti Willelmum Hirvyng et Galfridus Lestan fuerunt capitales ductores populi contra pacem domini Regis levati. Datum die et anno supradictis.
Text (English translation)Forehoe [hundred] Inquisition held at Norwich on Saturday 6th July 1381 before William de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, and his associate justices of the lord king's peace etc. by William Curson of Barford, Robert Toly, John atte Cros, Stephen de Langham, John de Carleton, Richard Nooth, Richard Botyld, Peter Runhale, Roger Brixy, Robert Nooth, John atte Ston and Hugo Pescod who say upon their oath that William Hirvynge of Aslacton on Monday 17th June 1381 came to Hackford with force and arms and against the peace with a large society of people wrongfully raised up, whose names are unknown, and there they feloniously entered the close and houses of Richard Palmere, and they seized the same Richard and threatened him with decapitation and destruction of his houses unless he would make a fine with the same William Hirvynge of one silver mark, [and this] on the abetment and procurement of Geoffrey Lestan, beheaded. And that on Tuesday 18th June 1381 Geoffrey Lestan came to Bracon Ash with force and arms and against the lord king's peace with a large society of people wrongfully raised up and with him associated and there he feloniously entered the close and houses of John de Brakene and feloniously took and carried away nine cows found there of the same John worth 100 s. And he is a common evildoer. Also they say that the aforesaid William Hirvyng and Geoffrey Lestan were chief leaders of the people raised against the peace of the lord king. Given at the aforesaid day and year.
