Item dicunt quod die lune et anno supradictis Iohannes Lathale de Wymondham simul cum multis aliis venit apud Hakford vi et armis et contra pacem et ibidem manifeste minatus fuit Ricardo Palmere de vita et membris quod nisi ei dare vellet pecuniam aliter ipsius franget brachia et crusa et sic de eo cepit per extortionem xiii s. iiii d. Et ab inde ibat usque villam de Kymberles se ibidem eodem modo cepit per extorcionem de Stephano de Langham iiii s. Item dicunt quod Willelmus Sterk de Shelphangere et Thomas Drewe de eadem die lune in festo Nativitatis Sancti Iohannis Baptiste anno regni Regis Ricardi secundi post conquestum quinto venerunt apud Wymondham ad comunitatem villate predicte et eis ibidem obtulit quod si insurgere vellent contra pacem eis producere mille homines ad populum fidelem domini Regis destruendum et equitaverunt de villa in villam ad gentem levandum.
Text (English translation)Forehoe The jurors present that Walter Clerk, servant of the prior of Wymondham, was a chief leader and raiser [in rebellion] of the people against the peace and [who have] risen in prejudice of the king's crown, and instigated people to go to Norwich on Monday 17th June 1381, and there he ordered people to kill and behead Reginald de Eccles, and thus the same Reginald was killed and beheaded, and despoiled of his goods and chattels worth 200 marks. Also they say that on the same Monday John Lathale of Wymondham along with many others came to Hackford with force and arms and against the peace, and there he openly threatened the life and limb of Richard Palmere, that if he did not want to give him money he would break his arms and legs, and thus extorted from him 13 s. 4 d. And from there he went to the village of Kimberley and there in the same way took by extortion 4 s. from Stephen de Langham. Also they say that William Sterk of Shelfanger and Thomas Drewe of the same on Monday 24th June 1381 came to Wymondham to the community of the aforesaid village and presented to them that if they wished to rise up against the peace they should bring forth 1000 men to destroy the king's faithful lieges, and they rode from village to village to raise the people.
