Text (English translation)Mitford The jurors present that Roger Bacon, knight, Thomas son of Lord Thomas de Gyssyngge, knight, John Chacchevache who calls himself John de Mounteney of [Old] Buckenham and Geoffrey Listere of Felmingham were leaders of those who against the crown and dignity of the king rose up in the county of Norfolk, gathering to them various assemblies, to the damage of many people and the slaughter of various men whose names are unknown, against the king's crown etc. And that on Monday 17th June 1381, John son of Phillip de Carleton came to Mattishall with force and arms and against the king's peace along with many others unknown, and made Richard, vicar of the church of the aforesaid village, pay a fine of half a mark and more, by instigation of John Ladde. And that the same John son of Phillip on the aforesaid day came with force and arms and against the peace to the house of Thomas de Bumstede in Mattishall with others unknown and sought him out, and threatened his life and limb, so that he fled his house for five days and more etc. And that Andrew, bailiff of Bridgham, Roger Bole and Thomas de Blofeld, with many others unknown, came with force and arms and against the peace etc. and entered the house of the same Thomas de Bomstede at Mattishall, and sought him out, and threatened his life and limb, so that he fled his house, until others paid a fine for him of 40 d. And that Thomas Newelle of Cranworth plundered goods and chattels worth half a mark from John de Herlyngg. And that the same Thomas de Newelle plundered goods and chattels worth half a mark from Thomas Clog.
