Text (English translation)South Greenhoe The jurors say upon their oath that Thomas Hulp of Sporle, on Tuesday 18th June 1381, caused the whole of the hundred of South Greenhoe to rise up against John de Pargrave, so that the aforesaid John de Pargrave fled the country in fear of his life, against the king's peace. They also say that Henry Bulwer and William Ropere of North Pickenham rode from village to village as messengers of the said Thomas in order to bring about the said uprising on the same day. They also say that Roger Egelyn entered the close of Thomas Tytishale, confronting Thomas's wife with many wrongs which the aforesaid Thomas previously committed against the said Roger and he asked for compensation of 40 s., which he then took, at the time of the rising. They also say that John Porter of North Pickenham offered, promised and procured John Geldere, chief leader, a fine of 20 s. to despoil John Bacheler and William Robyn, which he then gave him, at the time of the rising. They also say that John de Ikisworthe, with force and arms, on Thursday 20th June 1381, by the order and warrant of John Wrau, broke into the rectory of Wickmere at Wickmere, and took and carried away goods and chattels found there belonging to Thomas de Hengham, rector of the said church, worth £10, against the king's peace, at the time of the rising. They also say that John Marchale of Mildenhall, John Pykerel of the same, John Pepyr of Littleport, John de Bytham, John Cros of the same, Robert Cartere servant of Nicholas de Massyngham, John Mace of Hilgay, John de Denvere, William Benet de Hilgay, and William Vye of Bexwell, with force and arms on Thursday 20th June 1381 entered the Abbey of West Dereham and broke into the chamber of John de Methewode, and carried away goods and chattels they found there belonging to the same John, namely money and other goods and chattels worth £100, against the peace. And they say that Peter Lucas of Wiggenhall was one of their party at the time of the rising. They also say that Hugo Bulwer of Caston was a common plunderer at the house of John de Pargrave at Palgrave and at the house of Thomas Clog, chaplain, at Kempston, of goods and chattels worth £20, against the king's peace at the time of the rising. They also say that Thomas son of Thomas de Gyssyngge was the leader of the same Hugo at the said houses, against the peace etc. at the time of the rising. They also say that Phillip Dyrinol (beheaded), living in Hopton next to Little Cressingham, feloniously broke into the houses of John Reed at Rougham and took and carried away goods and chattels found there of the same John worth 40 s., at the time of the rising.
