Text (English translation)Wilford The jurors present that John de Batisford, parson of the church of Bucklesham, Richard Talmache and Thomas Sampson, chief congregators from village to village at the time of the rising, in a warlike manner and against the peace and dignity of the crown, feloniously and fraudulently came to the village of Melton with many others unknown on Sunday 16th June 1381 and plundered and broke into the close and houses of William Fraunceys at Melton and plundered and carried away goods and chattels of the said William worth £10. Also they say that John Reynold, beheaded at Hollesley, John Northerne called 'Northern John', John Box and John Calange of Bawdsey and William Bert junior at the time of the rising came in a warlike manner and against the dignity of the crown to the villages of Bawdsey and Hollesley and feloniously entered the manor of de Ufford, the Earl of Suffolk in the aforesaid village and feloniously destroyed and burnt charters, rolls and other muniments of the said earl of Suffolk on Friday 14th June 1381. Also they say that the aforesaid John Reynold, beheaded at Hollesley, John Northerne, John Box, John Calange and William Bert junior at the time rising in a warlike manner and against the dignity of the crown feloniously came to the villages of Hollesley and Alderton on Friday 14th June 1381 and feloniously entered the closes of George Glaunvill and Clement Brethenham, and feloniously destroyed and burnt charters, rolls and other muniments of the said George and Clement in the villages of Alderton and Hollesle.
