Item of the goods and chattels of Thomas Sampson, beheaded for the same cause, which are appraised at £20 the same escheator is not answerable because the said goods and chattels came into the possession of Thomas Pirt of Attleborough and William Pirt of Great (North) Elmham who are therefore answerable to the king. Suffolk And of the £6 of goods and chattels of Richard Denarstone taken and seized into the king's possession for diverse treasons, felonies and trespasses the same Richard had been indicted he [the escheator] is not answerable because the king had pardoned the said Richard and ordered the release of his possessions. And of the £65 12 s. 8 d. of goods and chattels of Thomas Sampson taken and seized into the king's possession for diverse treasons, felonies and trespasses ... he [the escheator] is not answerable because the king had pardoned the said Thomas and ordered the release of his possessions. Item the escheator answers for 100 s. of goods and chattels of John de Battisford parson of Bucklesham, indicted for diverse seditions and felonies committed during the time of the rumour. And [he answers] for the 29 s. of goods and chattels of Thomas Ffleccher of Bergholt, beheaded on 17 August 1381. And of 2 s. of the profits of a cottage and 1 ½ acres of land which the aforementioned Thomas held. And of the 20 s. of goods and chattels of John dil Cros de Shelland, beheaded for the same cause. And of the 6 s. 8 d. of William Baxtere of Botesdale, beheaded for the same cause. Norfolk And of the 14 marks (£9 6 s. 8 d.) of goods and chattels of Thomas Broune of Tottington who was indicted for diverse treasons and felonies committed at the time of the rumour he [the escheator] is not answerable because the said goods and chattels are in the possession of John Strange (Lestrange), knight. But he answers for 13 s. 4 d. of goods and chattels of John Elys of Horning, who was beheaded for diverse treasons and felonies committed at the time of the rumour. And [he answers] for 13 s. 4 d. of goods and chattels of John son of Thomas of Horning, who was beheaded for the same cause.

R. 1381-85, 226). Orders were issued on 24 July 1381 to the Sheriff of Essex and the Sheriff of Suffolk to take into the king's hands without delay all the goods belonging to Sampson on the day when he perpetrated the treasons and felonies for which he is adjudged to death, and to cause the same to be appraised in detail by inquisition and by the survey of John Orwell, the King's sergeant-at-arms, who is charged to receive the goods: Calendar of Fine Rolls 1377-83, p. 264.
