Et dicunt quod Thomas ate Sole ville de Gravesend se cognovit esse infra cameram domini Regis in Turri Londoniae in crastino Corporis Christi anno predicto et cum gladio suo lectum domini Regis fincit dicente pro seductoribus ibidem invenientibus sic Thoma Heryng et aliis. Et quod Iohannes Rous se abscondit quia quod esset in quadam bargia archiepiscopi Cantuariae die veneris proxima post festum Corporis Christi anno predicto eodem quod Iohannes Henry Ricardus Newman et alii capti fuerunt in prisona de Neugate. (Dorse) Et dicunt quod omnes isti infrascripti insurrexerunt in magna multitudine et sustinerunt insurrexionem vi et armis contra dominum Regem et populum suum et illa surexione fecerunt mala infrascripta.
Text (English translation)Hundred of Toltingtrough The jurors say that John Webbe of Nurstead went on 9th June 1381 to Upchurch and seriously assaulted William Symme and by means of a great threat extorted a fine for 13 s. 4 d. Thomas atte Sole of Gravesend confesses that he was within the king's chamber in the Tower of London on 14th June 1381 and with his sword split the king's bed saying that he was looking for betrayers like Thomas Heryng and others. John Rous fled because he was in a certain barge of the Archbishop of Canterbury on 14th June 1381 and for the same reason John Henry, Richard Newman and others are imprisoned in Newgate. [dorse] All the aforesaid wrongdoers rose in great numbers and continued in their insurrection with force and arms against the king and his people and they committed the aforesaid wicked crimes.
