Hundredum de Wecthilstone. xii iurati ibidem dicunt per sacramentum suum quod Willelmus Burre de Brenchesle Rogerus Cotynge de Brenchesle et Iohannes Kippyng de Tonebregge iunior die Sabbati proxima ante festum Nativitatis Sancti Iohannis Baptistae anno regni regis Ricardi secundi quarto insurexerunt contra dominum Regem et populum suum et domum Nicholi Merefeld apud Tonebregge felonice fregerunt et bona et catalla sua videlicet pannos lineos et laneos vasa enea et lignea et iocalia eiusdem Nicholi ibidem inventa ad valenciam c. solidorum succiderunt et in luto platearum conculcaverunt et cippos domini Regis ibidem fregerunt simul cum aliis malefactoribus ignotis et fuerunt manutentores insurectionis predictae et procuratores et abbetatores plurorum malefactorum insurgencorum in forma predicta.
Text (English translation)Hundred of Washlingstone William Burre of Brenchley, Roger Cotynge of Brenchley and John Kippyng of Tonbridge junior on 22nd June 1381 rose against the king and his people and feloniously broke into the house of Nicholas Merefeld at Tonbridge and came upon his goods and chattels, that is to say cloth, linens, woollens, brass vessels, wood and valuables, and tore them down, to the damage of 100 s., and trampled upon them in the street, and broke the stocks of the king along with other unknown wrongdoers, and were supporters of the aforesaid insurrection and accomplices of many wrongdoers in the uprising in the manner aforesaid.
