Text (English translation)Essex. Thomas Coupeland, plaintiff, by John Martel his attorney appears against John Coldham, John Asshey, Simon Duraunt and John Henry junior on a plea that they took and carried away goods and chattels of the said Thomas worth £20 at Clavering and also burnt a chest found there containing charters writings and other muniments. Sheriff ordered to attach them. He returns that they have nothing. Sheriff ordered to arrest them to be in the Court of Common Pleas in Easter term 5 Richard II. Hertfordshire. John Stante of Cheshunt appeared through John Martel, his attorney, against Richard Dalowe, John, son of John Pypere, William Dyere of Cheshunt, Richard Cordell of Cheshunt, William Haleman of Cheshunt, John Grave, tailor of Cheshunt, John, son of John Dartye and Richard Tannere of Wormley on a plea that with force and arms they broke the house of the said John Stante at Cheshunt, and trampled and burnt his goods and chattels to the value of 40m, and other enormities. And against the peace etc. And they did not come. And the sheriff was ordered to attach them etc. And the sheriff reports that they have nothing etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them and produce them here at the quindene of Easter 1382.
