Text (English translation)Essex. Richard Dalowe, Walter Ferrour of Waltham Holy Cross, Simon atte March, Thomas Sheryng, Richard Bocher of Great Waltham, John Prentys junior Walter atte Cheker, 'osteler', Richard Ostiler 'that was Jonesservant' Badburgham John Maltman 'lodere' and Walter Hunte, cook, attached to answer John Ryder chaplain and John atte Seler executors of the testament of Richard atte Seler of London by William Norwych their attorney that on 16 June 1381, during the life of Richard atte Seler, they broke the close and houses of Richard at Temple Reyndon and took and burnt two charters by which Richard acquired lands in Kingsbury in Middlesex from Guy Hoddesdon and Agnes his wife, one obligation by John atte Gate of Streat in Sussex to Richard for 24 marks, another obligation by William Shordych to Richard for 10 marks, another obligation by Walter atte Castell for £10, together with court rolls, rentals and other muniments of Richard atte Seler. Also took goods and chattels worth £20 and four marks in penny coins. Damage £100. The defendants come by John Osbern their attorney and say they are not guilty. Jurors summoned in succesive terms, but Sheriff does not return writ.
