2967Rebellion of Nicholas Ropere, William Pykard and Adam BraySuffolk. Nicholas Ropere of Sudbury, William Pykard of Sudbury and Adam Bray of Sudbury, barker, arrested on suspicion and brought before the justices by the sheriff and immediately accused by John de Reveshale, then the mayor of Sudbury, and the bailiffs and other faithful lieges of the king of the same town, that at the time of the rising they were chief rebels and leaders and made various men of the aforesaid county rise up against the king. And that the aforesaid Nicholas, William and Adam were chief breakers ... of houses and common plunderers throughout the liberty of Bury St Edmunds. And it was asked of them how they wished to acquit themselves of the charges of felonies and treasons aforesaid, and Nicholas, William and Adam admitted the charges separately, freely and without force. Judgement is therefore given that the aforesaid Nicholas, William and Adam should be beheaded, and their heads placed upon the pillory of the town of Sudbury, and that an inquiry be made into their lands and chattels.
