4405Thomas Faukener raises the commons of Winchester and FarnhamThe jurors say that on Monday 17 June 1381 Thomas Faukener came to Winchester from Guildford, saying that he was the messenger of a great company of rebels there, and caused men of Winchester to rise up and take part in a plot, and they travelled to Farnham to make the commons of that town to rise; and afterwards they returned to Winchester, and threatened the people that they would be drawn and hanged unless they rose up. Whereupon they rose up and treacherously rang the common bell and sounded the common horn of the aforesaid city, to the prejudice of the lord king and his crown. Whereupon those aforesaid people thus assembled together with others named below rose up, and began and continued the said insurrection and disturbance of the people for the two following days, raising their banner in a warlike manner.Hampage,Hampshire; Winchester,Hampshire; Guildford,Surrey; Farnham,SurreyAccusedView Incident page
